How to create a discount
Set up your discounts (percentage or amount) to apply them in one tap to a ticket or an item.
A discount is a reduction you prepare in advance (“Lunch deal”, “Happy hour”…). At the sale, you apply it in one tap to the whole ticket or to a single item.
Only the title is required. Pick the app or the back-office (on a computer) below.
Create a discount from the app
The screens below are from the Tunder app on a phone or tablet.
Open your discounts
Tap the menu icon ☰ at the top left, then Items. Then open the Discounts tab.
Tap the + button
It is at the bottom right of the screen. The “New discount” form opens.
Enter a title
Type the name of the discount in the “Title” field.
- Title: the name of the discount, shown in the discount list, in the cart and on the receipt. This is the only required field: with no title, the form shows “Title cannot be empty” and the discount is not saved.
Enter the value
Under the title, the field is called “Percentage” or “Amount” depending on the type chosen further down (Percentage by default). Enter the value of the discount.
- Percentage: if you enter more than 100, Tunder saves 100.
- Variable amount: if you tick this box (see the next step), the value entered here is the one suggested by default at the sale.
Tick “Variable amount” if needed
Under the value, the “Variable amount” box says “Set the value of the discount upon sale”. It is unticked by default.
- Ticked: Tunder asks you for the value of the discount each time you apply it. Handy when the reduction changes from one customer to the next (goodwill gesture, negotiated price).
- Unticked: the discount always has the same value.
Choose the discount type
Under “Type”, at the bottom of the form, choose Amount (followed by your currency symbol) or Percentage (%). Percentage is selected by default.
- Percentage: the discount takes a share off the price (for example 10%).
- Amount: the discount takes a fixed sum off (for example $2).
Change the color
Tunder gives each new discount a color. To change it, tap the circle at the top of the form (“Edit”), then pick a color in “Choose a color”.
- The color tells the discount apart in the list and on the sales screen grid.
Save the discount
Tap OK at the top right: the “Discount created” message confirms it is saved.
- Save and create a discount: this button, at the bottom of the form (at creation only), saves the discount and opens an empty form right away for the next one.
Apply a discount at the sale
Only in the app. A discount is not attached to an item: you apply it at the time of the sale, to the whole ticket or to a line.
On the whole ticket: from the Discounts tab
Tap the menu icon ☰, then Sell, and open the Discounts tab. Tap the discount you want: it applies to the whole ticket.
- Variable discount: Tunder asks for the value (“Enter a percentage” or “Enter an amount”). Enter it, then tap Add.
- Remove: tap the active discount again to take it off the ticket.
- Empty ticket: add an item to the ticket first, so you can apply the discount.
On the whole ticket: from the cart
Open the cart, tap the options button at the top right, then “Add discount” and pick the discount in the “Discounts” list.
- Change or remove: the same button then reads “Edit discount”. Pick another discount, or tap “Cancel selection” to remove the one on the ticket.
- Sliding the discount line in the cart also removes it.
On a single item
In the cart, tap the item's line, then “Add discount” and pick the discount.
- Change or remove: the line then offers “Edit discount”. Pick another discount, or tap “Cancel selection”.
Warning. Tunder refuses to add a discount when the ticket contains a negative-priced item: a message tells you so. Remove that item to apply the discount.
Edit or delete from the app
The screens are those of the Tunder app on a phone or tablet.
To edit: tap the discount
Tap the menu icon ☰, then Items, the Discounts tab, then the discount in the list. Its form opens.
Change what you want
Edit the title, type, value, “Variable amount” box or color, then tap OK at the top right.
- The “Discount updated” message confirms it is saved.
- Same as at creation: each field is set as in “Create a discount from the app”, above.
To delete: tap Delete
At the bottom of the form, tap Delete, then tap it again to confirm.
To duplicate
Only in the back-office: the app has no duplicate option. Create a new discount, or use the back-office.
Create a discount from the back-office
The back-office is at admin.tunder.co. Sign in with your shop's account.
Open Discounts
In the left menu, click Items, then the Discounts tab.
Click “New discount”
The discount form opens on the side of the page; the list stays visible behind it.
Enter the discount name
Fill in the “Discount name” field (for example “Lunch deal”).
- Discount name: the name shown in the list, on the register grid and on the receipt. This is the only required field: with no name, the form shows “Name cannot be empty” and the discount is not saved.
Choose the discount type
Open the “Discount type” list: Percentage or Fixed amount. Percentage is selected by default.
- Percentage: the discount takes a share off the price (for example 10%).
- Fixed amount: the discount takes a fixed sum off (for example $2).
Enter the value
The field is called “Percentage (%)” or “Amount” followed by your currency, depending on the type you chose.
- Value: the percentage or amount taken off. If you leave it empty, it counts as 0.
- Variable amount: if you turn on the next switch, the value entered here is the one suggested by default at the register.
Turn on “Variable amount” if needed
The “Variable amount” switch says “Set the value of the discount upon sale”. It is off by default.
- On: Tunder asks you for the value of the discount each time you apply it. Handy when the reduction changes from one customer to the next.
- Off: the discount always has the same value.
Change the color
Click the square at the top of the form or “Change the color”.
- A color is assigned at random to each new discount. It tells the discount apart on the register grid.
Pick a color
In the “Choose a color” window, click a color, then “Use this color”.
Click “Save”
The “Discount saved” message confirms the creation. The discount appears in the list, then on your registers at their next sync.
- Closing without saving: if you have entered something, Tunder asks you to confirm before closing the form.
Edit, duplicate or delete from the back-office
All these actions start from the discount's form: Items, Discounts tab.
To edit: open the discount
In the list, click the discount's row. Its form opens on the side, with all its settings.
Change what you want, then save
Edit any field, then click “Save”: the “Discount saved” message confirms the change.
- On your registers: the change appears at their next sync.
- Same as at creation: each field is set as in “Create a discount from the back-office”, above.
To duplicate: choose “Duplicate discount”
In the form, click the ⋮ button at the top right (“More actions”), then “Duplicate discount”. Handy to create a similar discount (same type, other value).
- What is copied: the type, the value, the color and the “Variable amount” setting. The name becomes “name (copy)”: remember to rename it.
- The “Discount duplicated” message confirms the copy, and its form opens.
To delete: choose “Delete discount”
In the same ⋮ menu, click “Delete discount”.
Confirm the deletion
A “Delete [name]?” window asks you to confirm: click “Delete”.
- What happens: the discount is no longer offered at the register after their next sync. This action cannot be undone.
