How to create an item
Add a product or service: it appears on your sales screen, ready to sell in one tap.
Items are the products and services you sell with Tunder. Create an item once, and it appears on your sales screen, ready to be added to a ticket in one tap.
Only the title is required. Every other field is optional, and you can change it later. Pick the app or the back-office (on a computer) below.
Create an item from the app
The screens below are from the Tunder app on a phone or tablet.
Open your item list
Tap the menu icon ☰ at the top left, then Items.
Tap the + button
It is at the bottom right of the Items screen.
Discover the item form
The “New item” form opens. Here is the whole screen, from top to bottom. Only the title is required: every other field is optional.
- Photo: the circle at the top of the form. Tap it to take a photo, choose one or add an illustration (see the next step).
- Title: the name of the item, shown on the sales screen and on the receipt. This is the only required field: with no title, the form shows “The title can't be empty” and the item is not saved.
- Price: the price you sell the item for, as your customer pays it (for example 1.30). The ⋮ button to the right opens the price options: variable price and negative price.
- Margin calculation: under the price, Tunder invites you to add a purchase price. The margin appears as soon as you enter it (see “Read your margin”).
- Unit: “Per item” by default. Change it to sell by weight, volume, length or time.
- Category: files the item in a category of the sales screen, so you find it faster.
- Tax: the tax (VAT, for example) applied to the item. It is calculated on the receipt, and its title is shown there.
- Barcode: the item's barcode, to add it to the receipt by scanning it (Premium subscription). Under the field, a card suggests a barcode scanner: close it with the cross if you don't need it.
Tap the circle at the top of the form
Choose one option: Take photo with your device's camera, Choose from library from your photos, or Add illustration. Tunder asks for access to your camera or photos the first time you use these options.
Choose an illustration
The illustration library offers colors and hundreds of icons, sorted by theme (drinks, bakery, clothes…).
Choose a unit
By default, an item is sold “Per item”. If you sell by weight, volume, length or time, choose the matching unit: gram, kilogram, pound, ounce, liter, centimeter, meter, feet, minute or dozen. The price you entered is then the price for one unit (for example, per kilogram). When you sell the item, Tunder asks for the quantity and calculates the price for you.
- Per item: the price is the price of one item, sold individually.
- Other units: gram, kilogram, pound, ounce, liter, centimeter, feet, minute, meter or dozen. The price you enter becomes the price for one unit (for example, per kilogram), and the unit is shown after the price.
- At the sale: Tunder asks for the quantity and calculates the price for you.
Add a category
Categories group your items on the sales screen, so you find them faster. Select an existing category, or tap + to create a new one.
- Categories group your items on the sales screen (drinks, dishes, desserts…) so you find them faster.
- Choose: pick a category from the list, or none. This is optional.
- Create: tap + to create a new category without leaving the form.
Add a tax
Select the tax that applies to the item, or tap + to create a new one. A tax is either included in the price or added to the price, and it appears on the receipt.
- The tax (VAT, for example) is calculated on the ticket, and its title is shown there.
- Choose: pick a tax from the list, or none.
- Create: tap + to create a new tax: a title, a rate in %, then tax included in the price (the price you enter already contains the tax) or tax added to the price.
Set the price options
Tap the ⋮ button next to the price. Two settings, both off by default:
- Variable price: the price is not fixed on the form, and Tunder asks you for it at each sale. Handy when the amount changes from one sale to the next (a quoted service, a market item, a dish of the day).
- Negative price: the amount is deducted from the ticket instead of being added. Handy to give back a deposit, deduct a voucher or a credit note, or take an item back.
Add a barcode (Premium)
Type the barcode of the item, or scan it with a barcode scanner. At checkout, scanning the barcode adds the item to the ticket instantly.
- At checkout, scanning the barcode adds the item to the ticket without having to look for it.
- A unique code: two items cannot share the same code.
- Premium: this feature is reserved for the Premium subscription.
Track your inventory (Premium)
Scroll down the form: the “Inventory” section is at the bottom. Turn on “Enable inventory management”: the fields below, greyed out at first, unlock.
- Enable inventory management: the switch that unlocks the fields below.
- Stock: the quantity you have.
- Purchase cost: what the item costs you. It is used to calculate your margin, shown under the price.
- Low stock alert: the quantity at which the item is flagged as low stock in Inventory. Leave it empty if you don't want an alert.
- Out of stock: the “Disable item” option prevents sales when the item is out of stock. The item is greyed out and no longer available for sale.
- Save and create an item: the green button at the bottom of the form saves the item and opens a blank form right away.
- Premium: this feature is reserved for the Premium subscription.
Read your margin
Once you enter a purchase cost, your margin appears under the price. It is calculated on the price excluding tax: an item sold $4.50 with a 20% tax included in the price, and bought $1.50, gives a margin of $2.25, or 60%.
Save your item
Tap OK at the top right to save the item and go back to your list. Or tap “Save and create an item” at the bottom of the form to save it and start a new item right away.
Find your item in the item list
Your item now appears in your item list…
…and on your sales screen
It is ready to be sold in one tap.
Edit or delete from the app
The screens are those of the Tunder app on a phone or tablet.
To edit: tap the item
Tap the menu icon ☰, then Items, then the item in the list. Its form opens.
Change what you want
The form is the same as at creation: edit the title, price, illustration, category, tax, stock…
- Same as at creation: each field is set as in “Create an item from the app”, above.
Tap OK
The OK button, at the top right, saves the item and takes you back to the list.
- On your registers: the change appears at their next sync.
To delete: tap Delete
At the bottom of the form, tap Delete, then tap it again to confirm.
- What happens: the item disappears from your registers' catalog at their next sync. This action is final.
Create an item from the back-office
The back-office is at admin.tunder.co. Sign in with your shop's account.
Open Items
In the left menu, click Items, then the Items tab.
Click “New item”
The item form opens on the side of the page; the item list stays visible behind it.
Enter a title and a price
Fill in the item's name and its selling price.
- Item title: the name of the item, shown on the sales screen and on the receipt. This is the only required field: with no title, the form shows “The title can't be empty” and the item is not saved.
- Price: the price you sell the item for, as your customer pays it (for example 1.30). The ⋮ button to the right of the field opens the price options: variable price and negative price (see below).
Choose an illustration
Click the circle at the top of the form, then “Choose the illustration”: a window offers three tabs. The illustration is optional.
- The illustration appears on the register grid, so you spot the item at a glance.
- Photo: drag an image into the area, drag it to frame it and adjust the zoom. “Remove photo” takes it off at any time.
- Icons: pick a group (drinks, bakery, clothes…), then an icon from the Tunder library.
- Colors: a solid color, handy when you have no photo or icon that fits.
Choose a unit
By default, an item is sold “Per item”. Change the unit if you sell by weight, volume, length or time.
File the item in a category. This is optional.
- Categories group your items on the sales screen (drinks, dishes, desserts…) so you find them faster.
- Choose: open the “Add category” list. “No category” leaves the item without one.
- Create: click + next to the field to create a “New category” (title and illustration) without leaving the form.
Add a tax
Say which tax applies to the item. This is optional.
- The tax (VAT, for example) is calculated on the ticket, and its title is shown there.
- Choose: open the “Add tax” list. “No tax” if the item has none.
- Create: click + to create a “New tax”: a title, a rate in %, then “Tax included in the price” (the price you enter already contains the tax) or “Tax added to the price” (the tax is added on top of the price you enter).
Set the price options
Click the ⋮ button next to the price to open “Price options”. These are two switches, both off by default.
- Variable price: the price field is greyed out and stays empty, and Tunder asks you for the price at each sale. Handy when the amount changes from one sale to the next (a quoted service, a market item, a dish of the day).
- Negative price: a − sign appears in front of the price, and the amount is deducted from the ticket instead of being added. Handy to give back a deposit, deduct a voucher or a credit note, or take an item back.
Add a barcode (Premium)
Type the item's barcode, or scan it with a barcode scanner.
- At checkout, scanning the barcode adds the item to the ticket without having to look for it.
- A unique code: two items cannot share the same code. If the code already exists, the form shows “This barcode already exists.” and the item is not saved.
- Premium: without a Premium subscription, the field is greyed out. The form says “Scan your products at the register with the Premium subscription” and a click shows you the offer.
Track your inventory (Premium)
In “Inventory”, turn on “Enable inventory management”: the fields below unlock.
- Stock: the quantity you have, as a whole number. You enter it in a window, with the pencil. When you turn tracking on, Tunder sets 0 if you have not entered anything.
- Purchase price: what the item costs you. It is used to calculate your margin, shown under the price (see the tip below).
- Low stock alert: the quantity at which the item is flagged as low stock. Leave it empty if you do not want an alert.
- Disable item (under “Out of stock”): prevents sales when the item is out of stock. The item is greyed out and no longer available for sale.
- Good to know: turning inventory management off does not erase the saved quantity, and this feature is reserved for the Premium subscription.
Click “Save”
The “Item saved” message confirms the creation. The item appears in your item list, then on your registers' sales screen at their next sync.
- If something is missing: an empty title or a barcode already in use stops the save, and the form flags it in red under the field.
- Closing without saving: if you have entered something, Tunder asks you to confirm before closing the form.
Tip. When the selling price and the purchase price are filled in, the line “Margin: amount (percentage %)” appears under the price. It is calculated on the price you enter: an item sold at $4.50 and bought at $1.50 gives a margin of $3.00 (67%). You enter the purchase price in “Inventory” (Premium subscription), once inventory management is on.
Edit, duplicate or delete from the back-office
All these actions start from the item's form: Items, Items tab.
To edit: open the item
In Items, click the item's row. Its form opens on the side, with all its settings.
Change what you want
Edit any field: title, price, illustration, unit, category, tax, barcode, stock…
- Same as at creation: each field is set as in “Create an item from the back-office”, above.
Click “Save”
The change is saved in your catalog.
- On your registers: the change appears at their next sync.
- Closing without saving: if you changed something, Tunder asks you to confirm before closing the form.
- If something is missing: an empty title or a barcode already in use stops the save.
To duplicate: choose “Duplicate item”
In the form, click the ⋮ button at the top right (“More actions”), then “Duplicate item”. Handy to create variants of the same item (size, flavor) or similar items.
- What is copied: what the form shows on screen (price, unit, category, tax, stock…). The name becomes “name (copy)”: remember to rename it, then save.
- What is not copied: the barcode, because two items cannot share the same one.
To delete: choose “Delete item”
In the same ⋮ menu, click “Delete item”.
Confirm the deletion
A “Delete [name]?” window asks you to confirm: click “Delete”.
- What happens: the item disappears from your registers' catalog at their next sync. This action is final.
