How to configure and print order tickets
Print order tickets for the kitchen or the bar, with one or several printers.
An orders ticket is the ticket used to prepare an order, for example in the kitchen or at the bar. It prints in big characters, separately from the customer receipt.
A printer can print only the customer receipt, only orders tickets, or both. With several printers, you can build finer setups: a printer in the kitchen for some items, one at the bar for others, and one for the customer receipt.
You then choose, printer by printer, which items or categories print on each orders ticket. Pick the app or the back-office (on a computer) below.
Set up orders tickets from the app
The screens below are from the Tunder app on a phone or tablet.
Connect the printer
In the app: ☰ menu, then Settings, Printers tab, then tap “Add printer”. Choose the connection type: Bluetooth, or Wifi, ethernet.
- Bluetooth: first pair the printer in your device's Bluetooth settings, then let Tunder search for nearby printers.
- Wifi, ethernet: connect the printer to your router or local network. Tunder detects it automatically.
If the network printer does not appear
Keep “Search printers” turned on: Tunder searches printers connected to your router. If it still does not appear, tap “Search by IP address”.
- IP address: enter the printer's address (in the form 192.168.1.1) and choose its model.
Choose the type of ticket
Once the printer is added, open its settings. Under “Type of ticket”, tick “Orders ticket”.
- Customer receipt: the ticket your customer receives.
- One item per ticket: prints each item on a separate receipt.
- Orders ticket: the kitchen or preparation ticket, printed in big characters.
- Several types: one printer can print several ticket types. At least one type is required.
Choose which items to print
Under “Order options”, tap “Print all items”. The “Items to print” page opens: choose what prints on this printer, either by item or by category.
- This selection only applies to orders tickets: the customer receipt always prints all the items of the sale.
- Once a selection is made: the row reads “Custom selection of items”.
Tick the items
On the Items tab, tick a single item or several. Tap OK to confirm.
Or tick categories
On the Categories tab, tick one or more categories: all their items print on this printer.
Turn on “Print automatically” if you like
In the printer settings, turn on “Print automatically”: the tickets linked to this printer print by themselves when the sale is completed.
- What it covers: the customer receipt, the orders ticket, or both, depending on the types ticked on the printer.
- Display orders number: under “Order options”, this box shows a big order number on the customer receipt, for easy pickup.
Example: the kitchen prints Ice cream and Soda
The kitchen printer prints only Ice cream and Soda. A sale contains 1 burger, 1 fries, 1 ice cream and 1 soda.
- Orders ticket (kitchen): ice cream, soda.
- Customer receipt: burger, fries, ice cream, soda.
Here are the two printed tickets
The orders ticket (on the right) carries only the items chosen for this printer, in large characters. The customer receipt (on the left) carries all the items.
Tip. Orders tickets, “One item per ticket”, the display of order numbers and the choice of items to print are Premium features. Without a Premium subscription, you can add a single printer, for the customer receipt.
Set up orders tickets from the back-office
The back-office is at admin.tunder.co. It changes the settings of a printer that is already added: it cannot add one, because that needs the device next to the printer, on the same network. Only Wifi and ethernet printers show up there; a Bluetooth printer is set up on the device where it is paired.
Open the printer list
In the left menu, click Settings, then the Printers tab. Click the name of the printer to set up.
- The list: each printer shows its name, its IP address, its paper width and its type of ticket.
Tick “Orders ticket”
In the form, under “Type of ticket”, tick “Orders ticket” (with or without “Customer receipt”). At least one type must stay ticked.
- An extra block: as soon as “Orders ticket” is ticked, the form shows the “Order options” section.
Choose which items to print
Under “Order options”, click “Print all items” (or “Custom selection of items” if a choice is already made).
- Display orders number: this box shows a big order number on the customer receipt, for easy pickup.
- This selection only applies to orders tickets.
Tick items or categories
The “Items to print” window has two tabs, Items and Categories. Tick what should print, then click “Ok”.
- A category: ticking a category ticks all its items.
Set “Print automatically”
Further down the form, the “Print automatically” toggle prints this printer's tickets when a sale is completed. Also set the paper width if needed.
Click “Save”
The setting is saved for the printer, and your registers receive it at their next sync.
- Delete a printer: the ⋮ button at the top of the form offers to delete it. It disappears from every register of the shop, and you will have to add it again from a device.
- Only in the app: adding a printer and running a print test.
