How to connect a printer and a cash drawer
Connect a compatible printer, by Bluetooth or Wi-Fi, then a cash drawer, to print your receipts and order tickets.
To print receipts or order tickets, you need a compatible printer connected to the Tunder app.
The app connects to Bluetooth printers and to Wi-Fi or Ethernet printers. It has no USB connection. You add a printer only in the app; the back-office then lets you see and adjust your Wi-Fi or Ethernet printers.
Connect a printer from the app
Turn on your printer and keep it close to your device before you start.
Open Printers
Tap the menu icon ☰ at the top left, then Settings, then the Printers tab.
Tap the + button
Tunder first shows you the printing features. Tap “Add printer”.
- Free: you can add only one printer. To add more, you need the Premium subscription.
Choose your model
In the “Compatible models” list, select your printer, then tap “Continue”.
- Other printer model: you can continue, but Tunder warns you that only compatible printers are supported. Another model may work, without guarantee or support.
- The “View compatible printers” button opens the Hardware page of the website.
Choose the connection type
Tap “Bluetooth” or “Wifi, ethernet”, depending on how your printer connects.
For Bluetooth: pair the printer, then pick it
First pair the printer with your device in the device's Bluetooth settings. Then go back to Tunder: it searches for Bluetooth printers nearby. Tap yours.
- Permissions: if Tunder asks you to turn on Bluetooth or to allow access to it, tap the button that opens your device settings, then come back.
- Printer not in the list: on iPhone and iPad, tap “Search more devices”.
For Wi-Fi or Ethernet: pick the printer that was found
Tunder searches for printers connected to your router (your box). The printer and your device must therefore be on the same network. Tap your printer under “Printers nearby”.
- Permission: if Tunder asks for local network access, open your device settings and allow it.
- Printer not in the list: tap “Search by IP address”, enter the printer's IP address (like 192.168.1.1), choose the brand then the model, and run “Search printer”. The IP address is in the printer's configuration: see its manual.
Set up the printer and save
The printer's form opens. Run a “Print test” to check the connection, adjust the options, then confirm with the button at the top right. Tunder confirms with “Printer added”.
- Printer name: for example “Kitchen” or “Bar”.
- Type of ticket: “Customer receipt”, “One item per ticket” or “Orders ticket” (big characters, for the kitchen or the bar). At least one type must be ticked.
- Paper width: 57 mm or 80 mm, depending on your printer's roll.
- Print automatically: the receipt comes out at the end of each sale.
- Premium: order tickets and advanced printer options are reserved for the Premium subscription.
Tip. If printing does not work, first check that the printer is on, connected (Bluetooth or Wi-Fi) and compatible. After several attempts, Tunder shows “Printer connexion issue”: restart the printer, then tap “Try again”.
Compatible printers
The app only works with specific models. The up-to-date list, with each model's connection type, is on the Hardware page of the website (tunder.co/en/hardware). The list offered in the app contains these models:
Star Micronics
TSP143IIIBI-230, mC-Print3, mC-Print2, TSP143IV and mPOP Bluetooth.
Epson
TM-M30II and TM-T20III Ethernet.
One printer for several registers
Several registers can use the same printer only if it is a Wi-Fi or Ethernet printer. All registers must be on the same network. A Bluetooth printer cannot be shared: it stays paired with the register where you paired it.
Connect a cash drawer
The cash drawer does not connect to the tablet or the phone: it plugs into the printer.
Plug the drawer into the printer
Use the compatible printer already connected to Tunder. Connect the drawer to the back of the printer with the cable supplied with the drawer.
Choose which payments open it
In the app: ☰, Settings, General tab, “Payment types”, then the payment type you want (cash, for example). Turn on “Automatic cash drawer opening”, then save.
- The drawer opens when a sale is paid with a payment type that has this option.
- In the back-office (admin.tunder.co): Settings, General tab, “Payment types”, then the payment type's form: the setting is the same.
Print receipts and order tickets
Once the printer is connected, you print the customer's receipt after each sale, automatically or on demand depending on your setting. The order ticket, in big characters for the kitchen or the bar, needs the Premium subscription. To set it up with one or several printers, see the article “How to configure and print order tickets”.
