Set up a barcode scanner and use it to sell
Check out faster by scanning barcodes with a Bluetooth scanner (Premium feature).
Tunder lets you check out faster by scanning your items' barcodes with a Bluetooth barcode scanner. The Inateck scanner shown on the Hardware page of the website is compatible.
Selling with a barcode scanner is a Premium feature. For now, the camera of your phone or tablet cannot scan barcodes: only a scanner is supported.
Step 1: pair the scanner with your device
The scanner connects directly to your device by Bluetooth, like any Bluetooth accessory. Tunder receives the scanned code as keystrokes, so set the scanner to Bluetooth keyboard mode (see its manual). Once paired, the scanner stays associated with your device: you do not repeat this step every time you use it.
On iPhone or iPad
Pair the scanner from your device's settings.
- Turn on the scanner and enable its Bluetooth pairing mode.
- Open the Settings app, tap Bluetooth and make sure Bluetooth is on.
- In the list of devices, select your scanner.
- Wait for its status to change to “Connected”.
On Android
Pair the scanner from your device's settings.
- Turn on the scanner and enable its Bluetooth pairing mode.
- Open the Settings app, tap Bluetooth (or Connected devices) and make sure Bluetooth is on.
- Tap “Pair new device”, then select your scanner.
- Wait for the scanner to appear as connected.
Assign a barcode to an item from the app
For an item to be recognized when scanned, its barcode must be saved in Tunder.
Open the item's form
Tap the menu icon ☰, then Items, then the item.
Fill in the “Barcode” field
Type the barcode, or scan it with your scanner to avoid typing errors. Then tap OK at the top right to save the item.
- A unique code: two items cannot have the same barcode.
- Premium: without a Premium subscription, the field is greyed out. Tapping it shows you the offer.
Sell with the scanner from the app
Scanning works on the app's sales screen.
Open the sales screen
Tap the menu icon ☰, then Sell. Stay on this screen: it is the one that receives the scanned code.
Scan an item's barcode
If the barcode is saved on one of your items, the item is added to the ticket automatically.
- If the code is saved on no item, nothing happens.
- With a free account, scanning a recognized code opens the Premium offer instead of adding the item.
Repeat, then check out
Scan each item, then check out as usual.
Assign a barcode to an item from the back-office
In the back-office (admin.tunder.co), you can enter barcodes one by one, or all at once with an import file.
Open the item's form
In the left menu, click Items, then the Items tab, then the item's row.
Fill in the “Barcode” field
Type the barcode, or scan it with a scanner connected to your computer. Then click “Save”.
- A unique code: if the code already exists, the form shows “This barcode already exists.” and the item is not saved.
- Premium: without a Premium subscription, the field is greyed out and the form says “Scan your products at the register with the Premium subscription.”.
Or import all your barcodes at once
Items, Items tab, “Import” button (Premium feature). In the file, fill in the “Barcode” column of each item, then follow the import steps.
- The import details (template, bulk update, errors) are explained in the article “How to create an item”, under “Frequently asked questions”.
- A row whose barcode is already used by another item has to be fixed.
