Understanding sessions (end of day report)
Understand what a session is (a period of activity on a device) and the end-of-day report.
A session is a period of activity on a device. It groups all the sales, payments and cash movements made between its opening and its closing.
When you close it, Tunder generates a summary receipt, the end-of-day (Z) report, that you can send to your accountant. This article explains the two session modes, the X report, the Z report and cash float tracking.
You set up sessions in the app or in the back-office. Opening and closing a session is done only in the app.
Understanding sessions
What to know before you change any setting.
One session, one device
A session is linked to a single device. Several users can sell within the same session, and each one can view their own sessions with the user filters.
Automatic session
A session lasts 24 hours. It opens and closes automatically at the time you set in the settings. This is the default mode.
Manual session
You open and close sessions whenever you want, at any time of the day. There is no minimum duration, and you can create several sessions in the same day, one after another.
X report (current session)
The X report is a summary of sales during the ongoing session, without closing it. You can filter it by user to follow each person's cash register or their sales statistics.
Z report (closed session)
When the session is closed, Tunder generates the Z report: the summary of the session, that you can print or send to your accountant.
Cash float tracking
It lets you monitor cash during a session: you record cash in and cash out, then compare the expected amount in the register with the amount actually in the drawer.
Tip. Setting the session mode, cash float tracking and the automatic closing time is a Premium feature. Without a Premium subscription, sessions stay in automatic mode.
Set up sessions from the app
The screens are from the Tunder app on a phone or tablet. The setting is specific to each device.
Open the session settings
In the app: ☰ menu, then Settings, General tab, then tap the “Sessions” row. The list of your devices appears: tap “My device” or another device of the shop.
- Summary: each line shows the device number, its mode (Automatic or Manual) and, if it applies, “Cash float tracking”.
Turn on cash tracking if you want to track the cash float
Under “Cash management”, turn on “Track cash” to track your cash and easily record cash in and cash out.
- What it changes: Tunder asks for the amount you put in the cash drawer when the session opens, and the amount you count when it closes.
Choose “Manual” or “Automatic”
Under “Sessions”, choose how sessions open and close.
- Manual: sessions are manually opened and closed.
- Automatic: sessions are automatically opened and closed.
In automatic mode, set the closing time
The “Automatic closing time” field gives the time when the session closes and the next one opens.
- In manual mode: this field stays greyed out.
Read the explanation in the app
On the same page, the “Understand sessions” button opens a card that sums up these rules.
Open and close a session
Only in the app: the back-office cannot open or close a session. In automatic mode, Tunder opens and closes the session for you at the set time.
Open the session list
In the app: ☰ menu, then Activity, Sessions tab. Each line is a session: its number, its total, the date and the number of sales (“In progress” for the open session).
- Filters: you can filter the list by user.
Open a session
Tap the round button at the bottom right. The “Session opening” window appears: tap “Open a session”.
- With cash tracking: Tunder asks for the amount you put in the cash drawer (“Enter an amount”). Enter it, then tap “Save”.
- One session at a time: if a session is already open, Tunder asks you to close it before opening a new one. If you cannot see it, it may have been opened by another user: change the filters.
Sell as usual
All the sales, payments and cash movements made during the session are attached to it. Several users can sell within the same session.
- X report: open the current session from the list, then “More options” to print or send it without closing the session.
Close the session
Open the current session from the list, then tap “Close session”.
- With cash tracking: enter the “Cash in the cash drawer”. Tunder shows the “Amount recorded:” and, if there is one, “There is a difference of”.
- A note: you can add one before you continue.
- Confirm: tap “Continue”, then, at “Do you confirm closing your session?”, tap “Close session”.
- Only the device that opened the session can close it, and only users allowed to “Close session” (roles setting).
Print or send the Z report
Once the session is closed, tap “Send” to send the Z report, or “More options” then “Print”.
- Your accountant: the Z report sums up the session, with the totals, the payment methods, the cash and the sales by user.
Record cash in or cash out
Only in the app, with cash tracking turned on, on the device that opened the session.
Open the current session
In the app: ☰ menu, then Activity, Sessions tab, then the “In progress” session.
Choose “Cash in / Cash out”
Tap “More options”, then “Cash in / Cash out”.
- If tracking is off: Tunder offers to turn it on (“Enable cash tracking”). Tap “Enable”: you can also do it in Settings, Sessions, then your device, “Track cash”.
Enter the movement
Enter the amount, choose “Cash in” or “Cash out”, add a note if you like, then save.
- Amount: the sum that goes into the cash drawer or comes out of it.
- Cash movement: “Cash in” adds money (a float, change); “Cash out” takes money out (a bank deposit, an expense).
- Note: optional, to remember why the cash moved.
Check the confirmation
Tap OK at the top right: the message “Cash movement recorded” appears. The movement shows in the “Cash” block of the session receipt (cash in, cash out, cash at opening and at closing).
Tip. To keep a record of cash movements, export them: in the app, ☰ menu, then Activity, Export tab, “Cash” row.
Export sessions
Only in the app.
Open the Export tab
In the app: ☰ menu, then Activity, Export tab.
Choose “Sessions”
Choose the period, then “Sessions” to export your session data. The “Cash” row exports the history of cash movements.
- One tap: the cash movement history exports in a single step.
Set up sessions from the back-office
The back-office is at admin.tunder.co. Sign in with your shop's account. You can set up the sessions of all your registers there, without picking up the device.
Open “Sessions”
In the left menu, click Settings. On the General tab, click the “Sessions” row.
Choose a register
The list shows each register with its name, number, session mode, cash float tracking and automatic closing time. Click a register's name to open its form.
- Several registers at once: tick the registers, then click “Set sessions” in the bar that appears. This only exists in the back-office.
Turn on “Track cash” if needed
Under “Cash management”, the “Track cash” toggle turns on cash float tracking for this register.
Choose the session mode
Under “Sessions”, choose “Manual” or “Automatic”. In automatic mode, set the automatic closing time (hours and minutes).
- In manual mode: the automatic closing time stays greyed out.
Click “Save”
The setting is saved, and the register receives it at its next sync. A message confirms that the device is updated.
- Without Premium: clicking a register shows you the Premium offer instead of opening the form.
- Only in the app: renaming or deleting a device.
