How to create an open ticket
Save a ticket without taking payment: returning customers, tables, phone orders.
An open ticket is a ticket that has been created and saved, but not yet paid. It sets a cart aside while you serve someone else.
It is useful for a customer who comes back later, for table management, for phone or pick-up orders, or for payment taken later. You can keep several open tickets at the same time.
This feature is set up and used only in the app, not in the back-office.
Put a ticket on hold from the app
The screens below are from the Tunder app on a phone or tablet.
Turn on “Open tickets”
In the app: ☰ menu, then Settings, General tab, then turn on the “Open tickets” toggle.
- Device by device: if you use several devices, turn the option on for each one.
- A new tab: once the option is on, the sales screen shows an “Open tickets” tab, before the Items, Categories and Discounts tabs.
Add items to the cart
In the app: ☰ menu, then Sell. On the Items tab, tap one or more items to add them to the cart.
- The cart: tap the total bar at the bottom of the screen to open the cart details.
Tap “Save”
In the cart details, tap the “Save” button. It only appears when the option is on and the cart holds at least one item.
- A note, if you like: Tunder opens a “Notes” window where you can write a note (for example the customer's name or the table number), then confirm. It shows next to the ticket in the list. It appears in the Excel export, but not on the customer receipt.
- What happens: the message “Ticket saved” appears and the cart empties, ready for the next customer.
- Orders ticket: if a printer is set to “Orders ticket” (kitchen, bar…), it prints when you save the ticket.
Find the ticket in the “Open tickets” tab
Each saved ticket appears in this tab, the most recent on top. Each line shows the ticket number (for example #1-001), your note, the total, the time and the items.
- Several customers: you can switch between them, and finish each ticket separately.
Take payment when the customer is back
In the “Open tickets” tab, tap the ticket: its items come back into the cart. Then take payment with the payment method you choose.
- Once paid: the ticket disappears from the open tickets list.
- To change a ticket: reopen it, change the cart (add or remove an item, for example), then tap “Save” to update the ticket.
- To close a ticket without paying: tap the ticket again in the list. If you changed the cart, the changes are saved.
Warning. Once checkout has started, the ticket must be paid in full: you cannot keep the remaining balance for later. If the customer will pay later, save the open ticket before you go to checkout.
